Elizabeth Hussey (left), Public Services Librarian at Roberts Wesleyan College (NY) and Eleana Cordova (right) Adult Reference & Interlibrary Loan Librarian at Wayne Public Library (NJ), were selected as the 2017 winners of the Atlas Systems Mentoring Awards, administered by the STARS section of RUSA.
“Elizabeth Hussey was a clear choice for this award,” said committee chair Amy Paulus. “Her thoughtful essay indicates the timing for her to attend the ALA Conference is opportune, given her new role…and given her library’s implementation of three major software systems: ILLiad, Ares, and Alma.”
Eleana Cordova “indicates a natural curiosity and attending the ALA conference would provide her with opportunities to get answers to her many “why” questions,” said Paulus. “Having a support system and the ability to go back from ALA to her home library with rationale for making changes would really help her provide improved interlibrary loan services.”
Sponsored by Atlas Systems, each recipient will receive $1,250 to assist with travel to the ALA Annual Conference. Both Hussey and Cordova are library practitioners who are new to the field of interlibrary loan and resource sharing, and who have daily involvement in the crucial areas of borrowing, lending, document delivery, electronic reserves, and material delivery for their libraries.
Hussey and Cordova will be honored at the RUSA Achievement Awards Ceremony and Reception held from 5-6:30 p.m. Sunday, June 25 at the ALA Annual Conference in Chicago. All conference attendees are invited to the event. Additional event details will be available on the conference website in April.
The STARS Atlas Systems Mentoring Award selection committee includes: Amy Paulus (Chair), Kenneth L. Carriveau, Jr., Megan Gaffney, Renna Tuten Redd, and Shirley R. Thomas.
