The coming of autumn marks the start of another volume of RUSQ, the 57th in the journal’s life; view now. The close of summer is also a marker for our libraries—the end of summer reading, the start of the new semester—it is a time for beginnings. I am delighted that the fall of 2017 marks the beginning of RUSQ as a fully open access journal. As you can read in the editor’s column, the RUSA Board approved the move to full open access this past summer. It is an important step in the life of the journal, and one that I think strengthens our position in the scholarly writing world.
Readers can now enjoy easy access to the journal without worrying about paywalls and authentication. This issue features an assortment of great columns that have something for anyone interested in reference work. RUSA president Chris LeBeau discusses coming changes in RUSA; Steven D. Milewski and Jeanine M. Williamson look at becoming reflective practitioners; Sonnet Ireland explores information literacy and public libraries; In Amplify Your Impact, Spenser Thompson reveals the secrets of using personas as a marketing tool; Beth Posner examines yoga in the library in the Alert Collector; and Dave Tyckoson and Nicolette Sosulski present the six words that get you stuff in A Reference for That.
Our feature articles include “Giving Credit: How Well Do Librarians Cite and Quote Their Sources?” by Peter Genzinger and Deborah Wills; “Lifting the Veil: Analyzing Collaborative Virtual Reference Transcripts to Demonstrate Value and Make Recommendations for Practice” by Robin Brown; and “Towards Holistic Accessibility: Narratives from Functionally Diverse Patrons” by JJ Pionke.
