Online Discussion: Open Access Publishing in the Humanities

Please join us for a lively online discussion on the topic, “Open Access Publishing in the Humanities” from 3-4 pm EST on Wednesday, April 25th. The discussion will take place via the Zoom system hosted by H-Net and will also be recorded and archived for future use. It is free of cost to attendees.

Two Discussion Guides/Leaders will lead the discussion: Dr. Seth Denbo, Director of Scholarly Communication and Digital Initiatives at the American Historical Association and Ms. Sarah McKee, Senior Associate Director for Publishing at the Bill and Carol Fox Center for Humanistic Inquiry, Emory University. They will briefly outline what they think are the most critical issues today for open access in the humanities and what their respective institutions are doing in that field. Participants will be able to ask questions and provide comments on any related topic, including partnerships between humanities subject librarians and faculty regarding OA publishing, challenges to the development of OA in the humanities, successful initiatives, etc.

Seth Denbo is the Director of Scholarly Communication and Digital Initiatives at the American Historical Association. He oversees the publication department of the AHA and is working to develop innovative digital projects to enhance the organization’s mission.

Sarah McKee is the Senior Associate Director for Publishing at the Bill and Carol Fox Center for Humanistic Inquiry. Prior to her arrival at Emory in 2017, she worked for fifteen years at the University of Georgia Press, serving most recently as managing editor of the New Georgia Encyclopedia, an open access digital humanities reference work.

This is the first free online discussion jointly sponsored by the RUSA History Section and H-HistBibl. Our goals are: 1. To bring faculty and history/humanities librarians together to discuss relevant issues pertaining to scholarship and instruction and 2. To encourage faculty and librarians to explore opportunities for collaboration

For more information about the event, please contact Dominique Daniel (daniel@oakland.edu) and Chella Vaidyanathan (cvaidy2@emory.edu). The number of participants will be capped at 100.
