Join writer/director Emilio Estevez at ALA’s Annual Conference in New Orleans for a screening of his new film “the public,” also starring Alec Baldwin, Taylor Schilling, and Jeffrey Wright.
The film centers on the regular patrons of downtown Cincinnati’s public library, many of whom are homeless and marginalized, and their interactions with the library staff who have built emotional connections with them. When a bitter Arctic blast hits the city, the patrons turn the library into a homeless shelter by staging a sit-in, which escalates into a police standoff.
Screenings will take place in the Morial Convention Center, New Orleans Theater A:
Saturday, June 23, 9:00am – 12:00pm
Saturday, June 23, 2:30pm – 5:30pm
Sunday, June 24, 1:00pm – 4:00pm
There will be a Q&A with Estevez moderated by Ryan J. Dowd, executive director of Hesed House Shelter.
Screenings are free with full conference registration.
