Adriana Gonzalez and her team, Jason Coleman, Ryan Otto and Joelle Pitts, from Kansas State University, were selected as the Inaugural winner of the Gail Schlachter Memorial Research Grant. This award offers financial support to an individual or collaborative group conducting research into reference or user services. The Gail Schlachter Memorial Research Grant was established in memory of Dr. Gail A. Schlachter by her children Sandy Hirsh and Eric Goldman.
Adriana and her team conducted research which seeks to identify barriers faculty have in communicating with librarians about the serials crisis, the ongoing need to cancel resources, and scholarly communication issues. The research would be comprised of a survey, focus groups, and interviews with faculty. The primary objectives for this research project are to identify the primary barriers of the faculty with librarians about the serials crisis, publishing life cycle, and open access publishing options.
