ALA’s Steering Committee on Organizational Effectiveness (SCOE) has been working since June 2018 to carry out a comprehensive review and study of ALA’s governance, member participation, and legal structures and systems, with the goal of proposing changes that will vitalize its success, strength, and agility as a 21st-century association. SCOE has held in-person and virtual meetings to gather member feedback. Most recently, a series of webinar virtual discussions in April focused on Roundtables, Council, Committees, and Divisions.
SCOE has opened an ALA Connect Group, Organizational Effectiveness (SCOE) Project: Discussion Forum, bit.ly/2GqPgpC. This Connect Group is open for ALA members to join and participate. This group is used for providing updates on the work of the committee, to share materials, announce input sessions and feedback, and act as a forum for folks to discuss the future of ALA within the context of this committee’s work.
The next step is for SCOE to synthesize and distill the feedback to date into an integrated model to share with everyone in June. There will be 5 feedback sessions during ALA Annual Conference in Washington, D.C. These sessions will all be held in the Washington Convention Center, Room 103B. The times are: Saturday June 22 from 12:00 – 1:30 or 2:30 – 4:00, Sunday, June 23 from 12:00 – 1:30 or 2:30 – 4:00, and Monday June 24 from 12:00 – 1:30. There will also be and a virtual feedback session in July.
These in-person and virtual opportunities are ALA members’ chance to offer input into the SCOE process and provide suggestions of what will make ALA work better for members and the profession. Let your voice be heard!
