Have you wanted to volunteer for the many opportunities offered by RUSA but were not sure how? Would you like to learn more about what volunteer opportunities are available within RUSA?
On March 24, Vice President/President-Elect Courtney McDonald, together with the section Vice Chairs (Jessica Bower, STARS, Rebecca Graff, RSS, Shannon Jones, ETS, Julia Martin, BRASS, Julie Murphy, CODES, Kathy Shields, History) hosted a RUSA Volunteer Open House. In this hour-long session, they shared information about the wide variety of activities that our 130+ RUSA division- and section-level committees are engaged with, including awards, in-person and online programming, publications, and an array of opportunities to serve as the RUSA liaison to ALA committees and groups (e.g., Freedom to Read Foundation, ALA Professional Ethics Committee, and more). The panelists also shared practical information about how to volunteer.
McDonald stated, “This was such a wonderful opportunity to connect with library colleagues and fellow RUSA members to share how much their contributions mean to the work of our division. RUSA has meant so much to my professional career, and I know that’s true for many others as well. We have all gained so much from the networking, practical experiences, and learning opportunities we’ve shared and I want to be sure to let all RUSA, and ALA, members know that we at RUSA want to find a seat for you at our table. As ETS Vice Chair Shannon Jones commented during the open house, RUSA is really a family.”
