2022 BRASS Academic Business Librarianship Travel Award

Alison Messier, Business & Entrepreneurship Services Librarian, W.E.B. Du Bois Library, winner of the 2022 BRASS Academic Business Librarianship Travel Award sponsored by Global Financial Data

Alison Messier has been selected as the 2022 winner of the BRASS Academic Business Librarianship Travel Award sponsored by Global Financial Data. The grant consists of $1,250 and is awarded to an individual new to the field of academic business librarianship in order to support attendance to the ALA Annual Conference.

The BRASS Academic Business Librarianship Travel Award, sponsored by Global Financial Data, aims to provide support to an individual new to the field of academic business librarianship. In her role as the Business & Entrepreneurship Services Librarian at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, Alison Messier has provided exceptional support to both her patrons and to fellow librarians in her regional consortium.

In her role as the Business & Entrepreneurship Services Librarian at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, Alison Messier has striven in her first few years to provide excellent service to her patrons. She attends events held by the business school, holds office hours in a designated space located in the business school and serves as a judge for pitch competitions.

Alison Messier is new to her role as a business librarian, but has already shown her commitment to service through membership on campus, regional and national committees. She serves on her University Inclusion Diversity Anti-Racism and Equity Committee, is a member of the Boston Library Consortium Business Community of Interest, and participates in RUSA’s Business Reference and Services Section (BRASS) as a member of the Business Reference in Academic Libraries Committee. This award will allow Alison to build a further professional network beyond her regional connections and provide BRASS with the benefit of her unique perspective.
