BRASS Preconference: The Business of Vice

Register today for the BRASS Preconference scheduled during the ALA Annual Conference

The Business of Vice: A dicussion about business reference work with patrons and students interested in businesses often described as vices.

Join three business-focused librarians in a discussion on teaching about or assisting patrons with the business of vice! The goal of this session is to share experiences and resources and to hold a broader discussion about how we can assist our patrons as the legal and social landscape for vice shifts. This session will be useful for librarians working with the public, including library directors and reference librarians, academic librarians working in the field of Business, and potentially law librarians.

The session will kick off with presentations from each panelist on their particular engagement with the business of vice. Participants will then join a series of rotating discussions between tables focused on a particular vice, moderated by one of the panelists at each table. The discussions will focus on how to assist patrons and students researching these topics, and discussants will also be able to share useful resources for this type of work. At the end of the rotating discussions, these resources will be collected and made public for future use.
