Chair’s Message

Autumn is the season when CODES book and media awards committees crank into full gear! CODES members are hard at work reading, listening and evaluating books, reference works, and other resources across all genres and formats in anticipation of the RUSA Book and Media Awards ceremony next January 2017 at the ALA Midwinter Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia. CODES committees will announce winners for its awards including the Notable Books List, Outstanding Reference Sources, the Reading List, the Sophie Brody Award, and the Dartmouth Medal. We encourage all CODES and RUSA members to attend the ceremony. The location will be announced soon.

Speaking of awards committees, how would you like to serve on one? Membership in the book and media awards committees run February through January. CODES leadership will be making appointments to these committees in late fall and winter. Just complete the committee volunteer form at http://www.ala.org/rusa/members/volunteer. CODES has several other committees in addition to the book and media awards. Appointments to these committees are made in the early spring. It’s not too late to be thinking about joining!

Many CODES committees are now virtual, so opportunities may exist for participating that were not available in the past. If you have questions about appointments to CODES committees including awards committees, please check with Patrick Wall, CODES Vice Chair/Chair-Elect (pjwall@ucitylibrary.org). Find out more about CODES at http://www.ala.org/rusa/sections/codes. You can find a list of current CODES committees and rosters at http://www.ala.org/rusa/sections/codes/committees.
