Reports from History Section committee work: What we’ve done since ALA Midwinter
RUSA History Handbook
The Section continues to work on the draft of the RUSA History Handbook.
The Section has formed a new partnership with H-HistBibl (H-Net community on the Study & practice of History Librarianship) in February 2018 to host a series of free online discussions on topics of interest to members of the History Section and H-HistBibl.
The Instruction and Research Services committee is updating existing Primary Sources LibGuides, and creating additional area and thematic guides.
HIS is beginning a mentoring program that will help our members in achieving their career development goals.
Pre Conference news
The Genealogical Pre Conference Planning Committee is working on finalizing the program for the pre conference at the 2018 ALA Annual Meeting in New Orleans.
The Genealogy Committee is updating the documents “Guidelines for a Unit or Course of Instruction in Genealogical Research at Schools of Library and Information Science” and producing a combined set of guidelines for building genealogy and local history collections.
Local History Committee
The Local History Committee created a virtual discussion series, inaugural event held in Fall 2017.
Primary Sources guides
The existing Primary Sources guides (Instruction and Research Services Committee) are highly used, not just by RUSA members, but also by the larger K-12 community.
Historical Materials Committee
The Historical Materials Committee published the Best Historical Materials List for 2017.
