Message from the Chair:

Happy spring, RSS members,

ALA Midwinter provided an opportunity to meet up with some RSS members who attended. The section hosted its traditional Pancake Breakfast and a great time was had by all attendees. The RUSA Social provided another meet up opportunity; attendees learned quite a bit about the history of RUSA and its sections.  I look forward to seeing more of you at ALA Annual in exciting New Orleans!

Outside of conferences, the RSS Board has been involved in discussing ways to work with the new ALA Annual Conference scheduling. All sections will be able to sponsor only one discussion group at the conference. As a result, RSS will be holding a discussion group in New Orleans where participants will have three reference-related topics they can choose from to discuss.

The RSS Executive Committee is looking at ways to consolidate and/or possibly drop some of RSS’s committees. More information to come . . .

Cynthia Johnson, the RSS Vice-Chair, is currently making committee appointments. We always welcome new committee members. If you are interested in volunteering, please complete the RUSA Volunteer Form and click on RUSA_RSS at the bottom of the first page. Contact Cynthia, cynthiaj@uci.edu, if you have any questions about a specific committee or about service on a committee.

Our committees have been active, they’ve been updating their publications, planning webinars for the spring, and planning programs for the next ALA Annual. You can read more about their activities in the committee reports section of this newsletter.

Just as a reminder, you can find lots of information about RSS at http://www.ala.org/rusa/sections/rss, our website page.  Have a wonderful spring!

RSS Honor Roll

It’s that time of year! We want to recognize you and your contributions to RSS!

The RSS Honor Roll gives recognition to active RSS members who have served the section in three different capacities since its inception.

If you have been a member of three or more committees or discussion groups since RSS was established in 2004 and have not previously been added to the honor roll, please send your name and a list of the three ways you have served RSS to Ellen Keith at keith@chicagohistory.org.

Not only will you become a member of this esteemed group, you will also be recognized at ALA Annual in New Orleans!
