Message from the Chair
Remarkable Reference Services Section Readers,
We’ve been busy this month! The Virtual Reference Services Committee co-hosted a “From a New Normal to a New Future,” e-forum on Trends in Virtual Reference & Emerging Technology, providing an opportunity to engage with colleagues. Also, I hope you came to our 80’s themed virtual social. Until we can eat pancakes together again at conferences, we’ll create a way to get together.
Want to contribute to and help direct our efforts? As we enter committee appointment season, our Vice-Chair, Fatima Perkins, will match volunteers with the many wonderful opportunities as part of our committees. Use the volunteer form, http://bit.ly/38uAlHC, to join us and more actively participate in the section. Find descriptions of the committees at http://bit.ly/3bta9PN. Email with any questions.
RSS continues to lead the new Definition of Reference Task Force. We had a fantastic presentation at ALA Midwinter, discussing “What Counts as Reference?” Though we hope to be wrapping up soon, there’s still time to post your comments, http://bit.ly/3q5fPWa.
You are welcome to join our monthly RSS Board meeting, held the first Monday of the month at 4:00pm Eastern. The link for it can be found on the RUSA Update calendar (https://bit.ly/37gCrtA). Following us on Twitter @RSS_RUSA and liking our Facebook page are also good ways to keep up.
Regards,
Rebecca Eve Graff, RSS Chair

Committee Reports
Virtual Reference Services Committee
The Virtual Reference Services Committee collaborated with the Managing Emerging Technology and Hot Topics Committees of ETS for an e-forum, titled “From a New Normal to a New Future: eForum Trends on Virtual Reference & Emerging Technology.” It was held on March 2-3.
This e-forum featured a discussion of how events of 2020, including operating during a pandemic and in a highly polarized environment, had a lasting impact on reference work, services, & technology. This event was an opportunity for colleagues to learn from each other while gaining knowledge about new trends in reference and emerging technology.
