Message from RUSA

A note from RUSA President Courtney McDonald:

Greetings, friends and colleagues!

I hope this message finds you well and safe.

As we begin a new ALA appointment year, I want to thank all the member volunteers whose time, expertise, and effort are the foundation of all that RUSA contributes to ALA and to our broader profession. I look forward to working closely with all RUSA members over the coming year, and I invite each of you to contact me directly () with your ideas, concerns, or suggestions regarding how RUSA can support you and your work, especially in these unsettling and unprecedented times.

We were very glad to see the enthusiastic response to the RUSA Virtual Town Hall held last month (). I want to extend a personal invitation to each of you to join us for next week's RUSA Town Hall on the Definition of Reference - find details and a link to register below. We're looking forward to seeing you there, and hearing your perspectives and insights as we work together to change the Definition of Reference.

To close, I hope that you will plan to join us at each of the Town Hall Tuesdays to be scheduled throughout the coming year - look for more detailed information on dates and times very soon. I'm excited about these upcoming opportunities for learning, for discussion, and for connection.

Take care,

Tipping the Scales: Technology & Social Justice

Tipping the Scales: Technology & Social Justice

As the nation continues to grabble with the civic unrest resulting from years of systemic and institutionalized racism, the weaponizing of law enforcement, white supremacy and unchecked state violence, many libraries are looking to raise awareness of social justice issues, provide equitable access to information or services, or increase community engagement. Technology can be used as a tool to facilitate this type of work in any type of library. We hope that sharing examples of successful uses of technology in service of social justice will help motivate librarians to engage in similar projects or spark new ideas.
